Blackjack Hall Of Fame

Edward Oakley ThorpEdward Oakley Thorp is widely regarded, by professional players as well as the general public, as the Father of Card Counting. It was in his book, Beat the Dealer, first published in 1962, that he presented his Ten-Count system, the first powerful winning blackjack system ever made available to the public. All card-counting systems in use today are variations of Thorp’s Ten-Count.

When Thorp’s book became a best seller, the Las Vegas casinos attempted to change the standard rules of blackjack, but their customers would not accept the changes and refused to play the new version of the game. So, the Vegas casinos went back to the old rules, but switched from dealing hand-held one-deck games to four-deck shoe games, a change that the players would accept. Unfortunately for the casinos, in 1966 Thorp’s revised second edition of Beat the Dealer was published. This edition presented the High-Low Count, as developed by Julian Braun, a more powerful and practical counting system for attacking these new shoe games.

In 1961, Thorp and C. Shannon jointly invented the first wearable computer, a device that successfully predicted results in roulette. Thorp has an M.A. in Physics and a Ph.D. in mathematics, and has taught mathematics at UCLA, MIT, NMSU, and U.C. Irvine, where he also taught quantitative finance.
For many years Ed Thorp wrote a column for the now-defunct Gambling Times magazine. Many of these columns were collected in a book titled The Mathematics of Gambling, published in 1984 by Lyle Stuart.

Uston burst onto the scene in 1977 with the publication of The Big Player, co-authored with Roger Rapaport. In this book, Uston exposed the secrets of Al Francesco’s big player teams. The book caused a falling out between Al and Ken that lasted for years, as Al felt Ken had betrayed his trust as well as his teammates.Blackjack

But there is no denying that the book caused an upheaval in the world of card counting, changing the ways that professionals looked at the game and attacked it. Three of the most successful international blackjack teams-the Tommy Hyland team, the MIT team, and the Czech team-all were founded in 1978, the year after Uston’s book was published.

Al and Ken later patched up their relationship and Uston went on to start many blackjack teams of his own. He was a personality on a grand scale, who legally challenged the casino industry in the courts of both New Jersey and Nevada. His playin 1000 g career spanned two decades of play at the highest levels, and included card counting, BP teams, hole card techniques, and concealed computer play.
Ken is also the author of Two Books on Blackjack (1979), Million Dollar Blackjack (1981), and Ken Uston on Blackjack (1986).
Uston died in 1987 at the age of fifty-two.

Stanford Wong self-published his first book, Professional Blackjack, in 1975. It was later published by the Gambler’s Book Club in Las Vegas, then revised and expanded numerous times and published by Wong’s own company, Pi Yee Press.

Wong is widely regarded as one of the sharpest analysts of systems and methods for beating the casinos. In Professional Blackjack, he described a never-before-revealed table-hopping style of playing shoe games, a method of play now known as wonging. Professional Blackjack had a profound impact on serious players because it provided card counters with an easy yet powerful method for attacking the abundant four-deck shoe games that had taken over Las Vegas. Many pros still think of card-counting opportunities as “pre-Wong” and “post-Wong.”

Stanford WongIn his second book, Blackjack in Asia-a book priced at $2,000 and one of the rarest gambling books sought by collectors today – Wong discusses the unique blackjack games he had discovered in Asian casinos as a professional player, along with the optimum strategies he had devised for beating them. The book also included underground advice for exchanging currencies in these countries on the black market, as well as an account of his own hassles with customs officials when he attempted to leave the Philippines with his winnings. Of all of Wong’s books, this is my personal favorite, as it reveals more of his anti-establishment personality than any of his later books.

In 1980, Wong published Winning Without Counting, priced at $200, and again, on a personal note, this is my second favorite book by Wong (and another collector’s item if you can find one). He not only discusses many hole card techniques that had never before been mentioned in print-s-front-loading, spooking, and warp play-but he also delved into many clearly illegal methods of getting an edge over the house, including various techniques of bet-capping, card switching, card mucking, etc. He was widely criticized by those in the casino industry for the amusing way in which he discussed and analyzed such techniques, but anyone with half a brain could see that he was merely informing players with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.

Wong subsequently published Tournament Blackjack (1987), Basic Blackjack (1992), Casino Tournament Strategy (1992), Blackjack Secrets (1993), and since 1979 has published various newsletters including Current Blackjack News, aimed at serious and professional players.

Learn To Play Casino Craps: The Hardway Wages

Posted by admin | Posted in Las Vegas Casino | Posted on 12-09-2009

0

Casino CrapsBe smart, play smart, learn how to play casino craps the right way!

A Hardway bet is a standing bet that you can make, remove, increase, or decrease at any time. You bet that a hardway number will show as a pair before any other combination of that number, and before a 7 shows. A Hardway bet can be made only on the numbers 4, 6, 8, and 10. For a Hardway bet, each roll can produce three possible outcomes: 1) The hardway number is rolled and the bet wins, 2) The “easyway” number or any 7 is rolled and the bet loses, 3) Any other number is rolled and the bet neither wins nor loses (i.e., it “stands” until it wins or loses, or until you remove it).

What’s a “hardway” versus an “easyway?” As noted, Hardway bets are made on the 4, 6, 8, and 10. Let’s look at the 10. There are three possible dice combinations to make a 10, which are: 4-6, 6-4, and 5-5. Which of those three combinations of numbers do you think is considered the “hardway” for making a 10? You’re right! The 5-5 combination is considered the “Hard 10.” Therefore, your Hard 10 bet stands until a 5-5 is rolled (you win), any 7 is rolled (you lose), or an Easy 10 (i.e., 4-6 or 6-4) is rolled (you lose). Now, let’s quickly look at the 4, 6, and 8.

There are three ways to make a 4, and the dice combinations are: 3-1, 1-3, and 2-2. The Hard 4 bet wins if a 2-2 shows before any 7, 1-3, or 3-1.

There are five ways to make a 6, and the dice combinations are: 1-5, 5-1, 2-4, 4-2, and 3-3. The Hard 6 bet wins if a 3-3 shows before any 7, 1-5, 5-1, 2-4, or 4-2.

There are five ways to make an 8, and the dice combinations are: 2-6, 6-2, 3-5, 5-3, and 4-4. The Hard 8 bet wins if a 4-4 shows before any 7, 2-6, 6-2, 3-5, or 5-3.

Although the 2 and 12 are even numbers and both are made by quasi-hardway combinations (i.e., the 2 is made by 1-1, and the 12 is made by 6-6), there’s no Hardway bet for them because neither has an easyway combination.

The table minimum bet doesn’t apply to Hardway bets. Instead, the minimum is whatever the lowest-denomination chip is in play for that table, which is usually $1. The payoff for the Hard 4 and Hard 10 is 7:1; whereas, the payoff for the Hard 6 and Hard 8 is 9:1. The Hard 6 and 8 each have four easyways to lose. The Hard 4 and 10 each have only two easyways to lose. Therefore, with more ways to lose, the Hard 6 a 1000 nd 8 have a higher payoff than the Hard 4 and 10.

Some casinos try to trick the inexperienced player into thinking they have higher Hardway payoffs than their competition by offering odds written on the table layout as “8 for 1″ and “10 for 1.” At first glance, this does appear to be a bit better than 7:1 and 9:1. However, look at it closely and you’ll see that it’s 8 “for” 1, instead of 8 “to” 1. “8 for 1″ means they pay you $8 but they keep your $1 bet. 7:1 means they pay you $7 and you keep your $1 bet. Therefore, “8 for 1″ is the same as 7:1, and “10 for 1″ is the same as 9:1. If I’m somewhere with lots of casinos such as Vegas, and unless it’s a $3 table with high maximum free odds (e.g., at least 10x), I turn around, walk out, and go to the casino next door. It bugs me to see a casino try to trick players into thinking it offers better odds than its competition. So, to hell with them, I go somewhere else.

Casino CrapsYou can call Hardway bets on or off at any time. This usually occurs after the shooter makes a point. Players typically play the Pass Line, so after a game ends, they make another Pass Line bet. They root for a 7 on the come-out roll, but although a 7 on the come-out is a winner for the Pass Line, it’s a loser for the working Hardway bets. Therefore, players tend to call their Hardways off for the come-out roll so they can root for a 7 without worrying about losing their Hardways. The dealer then puts an OFF button on their Hardways. After the shooter makes a point, players call their Hardways back on and working. The dealer then removes the OFF button.

You must be aware of the casino’s policy for whether Hardway bets are on or off for the come-out roll. There doesn’t seem to be consistency among casinos. Ask the dealer, “Are the Hardways automatically off?” Or simply listen to the stickman before the come-out roll, who says something like, “Hardways work unless you call them off.” If you don’t want a conflict in what to root for (i.e., rooting for a 7 on the come-out conflicts with your working Hardways), then simply call your Hardways off on the come-out and then call them back on after the shooter makes a point.

Hardways are located in the center of the table and typically controlled by the stickman, so don’t try to put down or pick up any of these bets yourself. When you have the stickman’s attention, gently toss your chips to an open area near the center of the table and say, “Hard four, please.” Sometimes, the stickman catches your chips in mid-air. Sometimes, he lets them fall to the table and then picks them up. When you gently toss your chips, try not to hit other people’s chips on the table because they could fly everywhere and then the game is delayed while the stickman figures out where they all go. After a while, you become incredibly accurate with your toss. I can stand at the end of the table and toss a $1 chip to land in whichever Hardway box I want to bet. Oddly, other players are impressed with that worthless skill. The stickman then places your chips inside the Hardway box in a position that corresponds to your table position (in a manner similar to Place bets).

Now you know! Remember, learn how to play casino craps the right way.

Basic Ways Playing Blackjack

Posted by admin | Posted in Las Vegas Casino | Posted on 11-09-2009

0

Playng BlackjackPlaying Blackjack at a free online casino doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t win money. The free online casino allows you to download the program for free and start playing without having to put up any money. You can participate in freeroll tournaments and the games that are play money. For those that have mastered the basics of Blackjack, the best online casino websites have real money games of Blackjack.

The basic idea of Blackjack is to hit 21 points. The term “Blackjack” is used when you are holding an Ace, worth 11 points and another card valued at 10, which automatically wins.

When you are playing at a free online casino, the game plays much the same as the live Vegas versions. The dealer has to stand at 17 or take a hit on 16. As long as your hand beats the dealer, without going over, you win the bet, which is normally paid at 2 to 1. The best online casino websites have Blackjack games that start under a dollar and go on up from there.

The players are all dealt two cards, face down. The dealer has one card dealt down and one card dealt face up. The betting starts based on your chances of hitting 21 or “Blackjack”, and your odds of beating the dealer. It is important that you understand what the odds are of beating the dealer, when placing your bets.

If you are not sure of the basics of Blackjack, there are a few things you should master before playing for money. Looking at the dealer’s “up” card can give you a clue of what they might have. If they have an Ace up, they might have Blackjack already and you can buy insurance, which will pay 2 to 1, but you lose the initial bet. If they don’t have Blackjack, then you lose the insurance bet, but might win on your original bet.

Other than that, the dealer’s “up” card offers you the advantage if it is a numbered card under 7, because they may have 17 and have to stand. You have to assume they have an Ace, which is always counted as 11 on the dealer, but can be counted as 1 point or 11 for the players, if they choose. The best online casino websites play by the same rules as Vegas, but you may want to play on the free games to get the hang of how your particular free online casino plays it.

Blackjack basic strategies include that you should take a “hit” on anything lower than 16 if the dealer is showing an Ace or Face card. You should stand on anything 17 or better. These strategies shoul 1000 d win most of the time.

Other strategies include doubling down, where you would double your bet to play two chances, but only receive one card, that could be used with either of the others. Splitting a pair works on the same strategy. You would double your bet and play them as two separate hands. Of course, the more complicated strategies depend on the free online casino you are playing at. Learning Blackjack basics is important, when it comes to winning money at the best online casino websites.

The Most Spectacular Las Vegas Casinos

Posted by admin | Posted in Las Vegas Casino | Posted on 10-09-2009

0

The StripThe most spectacular casinos, resorts and Vegas shows are situated along the Southern end of Las Vegas Boulevard, also dubbed “the strip.” Each hotel-resort-casino has a different theme and they are all marvelous sights to behold. Inside you’ll find restaurants, retail shops, entertainment venues, spas, wedding chapels, golf courses, casinos, stages and nightclubs.

It’s no wonder why Las Vegas Nevada is sometimes called “the city that never sleeps!” With more than 30 casino-resorts along this four-mile stretch and 18 of the world’s 25 largest hotels, totaling more than 67,000 rooms, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of such a thriving environment.

You’ll notice the palatial Bellagio on Las Vegas Boulevard by its magnificent music-themed fountain “water-ballet” amid the Romanesque 8-acre lake that sits before the behemoth Italian structure. Here you’ll find thirteen restaurants serving California, Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine, as well as Cirque du Soleil performances, the Petrossian Bar and The Bank nightclub.

You’ll marvel at The Conservatory, which is arguably one of the most awe-inspiring views on the Las Vegas Strip, with its greenhouse natural lighting, brilliant towering plants, giant butterfly sculptures, vivid flower arrangements, hundred-year-old fountain and blown-glass ceiling sculpture; you’ll feel like you’re in “Honey I Shrunk The Kids.”

The rooms are cosmopolitan and bathed in sage and dark wood with plush furnishings. The health club is newly redone as well, with natural lighting, personal attendants holding iced towels and drinks and excellent plunge pools at the spa. Swimmers list The Bellagio as one of their favorite on the strip with its neoclassical Roman garden and Grand Patio featuring godly pillars and domes.

Shopping amenities boast pure swankiness: Tiffany, Armani, Gucci and Prada, to name a few. The casino itself features high-limit slots, semi-secluded roulette, blackjack, craps and baccarat, and a great 7 card stud area, as well as being the host to the Texas hold’ em, World Poker Tour.

The Wynne HotelOpened in 2005, The Wynn is one of the most expensive Las Vegas treasures, costing upwards of $400/night. One draw of this Vegas hotel is the 18-hole golf course. The 2,716 rooms are surprisingly spacious (over 640 sq. ft), with floor-to-ceiling views of the 140-ft. man-made 1000 mountain and waterfalls, deep plush beds with high-quality linens and down comforters, silky robes and velour slippers, with vibrant colors and Warhol artwork.

The nine restaurants here are superb, albeit pricey. Hand-laid mosaics and stone walls make this Vegas hotel one of the more subtle designs. There is a state-of-the-art workout center and peaceful spa. There is also an unconventional shopping esplanade carrying Chanel, Cartier, rare apothecary items, like Monk-produced products and even a Ferrari dealership. The casino itself is flooded with natural light and flowers.

There are other neat hotels around Las Vegas of course. The Luxor is the onyx pyramid-shaped hotel, and it is one of the most famed icons of the Las Vegas Strip, decked out like an opulent Egyptian palace. New York New York has all the ritzy class of the Big Apple, with trees and Christmas lights included.

The Stratosphere has death-defying rides that dangle you over the roof top and Circus Circus offers a thrilling roller coaster and indoor carnival, complete with a merry go round. MGM Grand has more than 3,500 slots and 165 game tables, which is the largest Las Vegas casino. Best of all, the strip is always expanding and no two trips are ever exactly the same!

This restaurant is located inside the Mandalay Bay Casino and Hotel. There is no question that Mandalay Bay, and her sister Casino Luxor, are on the top end of places to see in Las Vegas.

Cruising The Strip

seven towers that will house 6700 rooms, 4100 hotel rooms and 2600 resort condominium units; 175900 sq ft (16340 m2) of casino area that will make the Las Vegas Plaza the largest casino on the strip and second largest in the valley.

Paris Hotel and Casino Las Vegas

Having stayed in Paris, France and visited the Eiffel tower previously, I thought it would be nice to stay in the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas as.

Las Vegas Casinos Plus Internet Gambling

Posted by admin | Posted in Las Vegas Casino | Posted on 07-09-2009

Internet GamblingInternet gambling has come a long way, in a very short period of time. So much so, that those who enjoy online gambling have probably wondered what they are missing. And, those late night casino dwellers may have contemplated doing a little gambling from the couch.

Las Vegas can provide an atmosphere that you simply can’t get anywhere else. The ability to be swept up by the crowds and the excitement is unique. Not to mention the additional perks of Las Vegas, such as the live entertainment from big names performers. The sights, sounds, fine dining and world famous hotels make Las Vegas a fun destination for any gambler, whether you are serious gambler or weekend casino warrior.

However, once you take away all of the “bells and whistles,” internet gambling becomes much more attractive. While some may crave the Las Vegas atmosphere, others may feel that it can be a bit distracting. Especially if you are a player that needs a little concentration, the ability to control the level and type of sounds that surround you can be very helpful.

Most players who have played both at the online casino games and at Las Vegas feel that the rules are much more laid out and in favor of the players at online casinos versus traditional casinos. There are no tricks or intimidation from real life dealers or casino workers. Yet, there is a consensus that gaming disputes are resolved much easier in person versus trying to get to the right person at an online casino.

But the perks of online gambling also serve to make it a much more viable option. Since the online casino industry is new and ripe with competition, players can find great deals and playing bonuses or money given for simply signing up and playing.

Internet GamblingGambling online is also much better for those new to the game, as many internet gaming sites have gaming tips and advice. You can find information on betting techniques, strategies, and even how to choose the game or the table that you wish to play. Sure, the lights of Vegas are tantalizing, but no one will be trying to help you win.

There is also the convenience and comfort of playing your favorite casino games on the internet. You are not subjected to the crowds or the smoke that plague Las Vegas casinos. And, while playing online you are free to wear whatever you like. Plus, the ability to play what you like when you like, there is no waiting for a table to open up or working your way across the room.

There is no denying that Las Vegas has its perks 1000 , and always will. Las Vegas is more than casinos, it’s an experience. And, one that anyone who enjoys casino games should have at least once. However, for a more serious or casual game playing experience the casinos online are your best bets. You will save time and money by playing some of your favorite games from the comfort of your own living room.

Nevada’s Internet Gambling

Meant to post the other day: http://www.lvrj.com/business/54285877.html INTERNET GAMBLING: Nevada prepared for the ‘if’ State could assume leadership.

What Forms Of Internet Poker Are Out There Now

Since Bush passed that law outlawing internet gambling and internet poker I have heard rumors of overseas sites that will be opening up, does anyone know of any.

The Controversy Surrounding Online Gambling Regulation

The United States is arguably the biggest center of controversy due to the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) enacted by President Bush and a republican-led U.S. Congress.

Las Vegas Casinos Vs. Online Casinos

Posted by admin | Posted in Las Vegas Casino | Posted on 06-09-2009

Las Vegas CasinoHaving played in Las Vegas casinos and online casinos I decided to analyze the differences between the two. Which would come out on top, the bright lights, sexy waitresses and general party atmosphere or computer generated graphics games and the comfort of your own home?

I had the chance to experience Las Vegas first hand a few years ago and loved it! It really is a 24 hour party town. I couldn´t go to Vegas and not gamble a few dollars away so that is exactly what I did. I won a little then lost the lot, great!

Las Vegas casinos are like medium size towns with bars, restaurants, shopping malls, hair salons and everything and anything else you would expect to find in your town center. Enter the main casino games section and you will find a whole floor dedicated to slot machines, a section of table games with dozens of roulette tables, blackjack and poker tables. The friendliness of the staff is second to none and soon you will be enjoying your favorite drink for free. If you gamble on the casino games all your drinks are free.

The catch for free drinks is that the more drinks you have the more drunk you become and the less you care about putting another few dollars in the machine or another $100 on a game of blackjack. Slots machines have huge jackpots and often you can see a Ferrari or Harley Davidson Motorcycle spinning around overhead as the jackpot prize.

So what happens if you hit the jackpot on a $1m slot machine? I enquired about this and a hotel/casino employee told me that the casino lights up like the 4th of July and then you are surrounded by a mafia of security to escort you to the manager’s office where he presents you with a briefcase containing the $1m. You are then offered a limo and the security team to escort you to the bank to deposit you winnings. Apparently no-one has turned down the security offer. I personally would not like to walk out of a casino with a briefcase containing $1m that the whole casino saw you win. Not gonna get too far without being attacked!

Casinos cater for everyone so it does not matter what your budget is you can always find a game to play within that budget, 10cents slots machines to $100,000,000 a spin roulette tables and everything in between.
All in all Las Vegas is a fun town with fabulous casinos that anyone who likes a flutter would get a kick out of.

So what can the online casino give us that Las Vegas cannot? Also having played in onl 1000 ine casinos, I can give you my opinion of my online gaming experiences.

Online CasinoLike Las Vegas, online casinos are also open 24/7 and offer players multi-million dollar jackpot games. Of course the atmosphere is slightly different, you don´t get bunny girls offering you free drinks, you don´t have the hustle and bustle of people moving about the casino and you will never get a limo and security guards to escort you to the bank with your winnings but to many this is a plus side to playing online.

Playing in online casinos means you don´t have to travel to play your favorite casino games meaning you can play anytime you want from the comfort of your own home. You can also jump from one game to another without moving. You still have the games you expect to see in a casino and in some cases there are even more games to choose from.

Apart from blackjack, poker, roulette, slots and other well known casino games you also have online arcade games such as bowling, horse racing, darts, penalty shoot-out and rock, paper, scissors all in computer format. Not all online casinos have these games but many of them do.

Online casinos vary from one to the other and depending on the software provider depends on which games are available from certain casinos. There are a handful of online casino games software providers. The major ones are Playtech, Microgaming, RTG and Boss Media each having their own style of graphics and games. Who can say who is the best, it depends on each individual and what they like in a games style.

There are many games available and many are available in a progressive style which means the games are linked and a certain percentage from each coin wagered is added to the progressive jackpot. These jackpots can be as much as $5m for a single spin or hand.

One major thing that online casinos have that land based casino don´t and that is the bonus system. Practically all online casinos offer a welcome bonus which is free cash for you to open an account at their casino. Anything from $100 free or 100% matching bonus to $5000 over a ten week period are offered to new players. It is always wise to read the terms and conditions of the welcome bonus first and all the general rules so there is no confusion when requesting a withdrawal of any winnings. The biggest welcome bonus to date belongs to La Isla Casino which offer €6700 over a ten week period and also offer bonuses on every deposit made plus weekly promotions, loyalty bonuses and many other great promotions. They also have some of the best casino games and software to complete the whole package.Online Casino

As well as the welcome bonus most casinos offer extra bonuses on certain deposits and reward you for your loyalty with even more free cash. You will also receive comp points (complimentary point) every time you play on a game. These comp points can be exchanged for real money to play on the casino games. A lot of money is thrown at new casino players to keep them playing at their casino. There is a lot of competition with the online casino so it is recommended to look round before you decide on a casino. In saying that, you are not limited to playing in only one casino. You may have accounts with several online casinos.

A drawback to any online gaming site is the depositing methods. Credit cards are often blocked by banks and/or credit card companies as they don´t like people gambling with their money. Due to this many alternative payment methods are available to help with your online gaming experience. Moneybookers, Neteller, UKash, Click2Pay and other reputable companies give you alternative options to help you deposit in online casinos, bingo sites, and poker sites as well as internet shopping.

These casinos offer between 80 – 200+ games including online casino slots, online poker, online blackjack and online video poker. All this is available at a click of a mouse without leaving your lounge. They have a strict security process to protect the player and casino from 1000 fraud and although winnings payouts are not as quick as a Las Vegas casino you will still get your money within 2 – 5 days (depending on the casino) if all rules have been abided by.

So which of the casinos comes out on top? Las Vegas Casinos or Online Casinos? Well, they are equally as good as each other depending what you are looking for and what the individual prefers. Some prefer online casinos while others prefer land based casino. Not everyone lives close to a land based casino so the only option is the internet.
